The problem
Kuwait’s own story is scattered. What is happening this week sits on Instagram accounts and WhatsApp forwards; what happened fifty years ago sits in one ageing forum that almost nobody reads. The Arabic web around Kuwait is mostly wire copy, personal blogs, and “best 10 companies” lists written by people who have never been here.
What it is
KWT.ONE is a daily Arabic publication about living in Kuwait — يحدث الآن، ما يفتح ويغلق، ماذا تفعل هذا الويكند، والمطبخ والتاريخ تحت كل ذلك. It is deliberately not a news site: the test for a story is whether a reader needs it, not whether it happened.
Why it was hard
- Arabic done as the first language rather than a translated layer — typography, right-to-left layout and search behaviour designed for it, on a custom theme with no page builder.
- Publishing several pieces a day without the quality collapsing into wire rewriting. That needed the research standard, the source tiers and the daily section slate written down before the volume started.
- Kuwaiti history had to be gathered and made readable, because outside one old forum it is not gathered anywhere.
- Advertising built as its own layer, managed from the dashboard, so placements change without touching the theme.
What it demonstrates
Strategy, theme, editorial system, ad platform and newsletter were designed as one thing rather than bought as five. That is the same argument I make to Kuwaiti clients who are on their third rebuild: the expense is never the design, it is the decisions underneath it.
